Site forums that really haven’t been getting any activity I’ve pruned.

With most sites having shifted to Facebook for their communication needs, I’m mulling what role these forums still have to play in the community as a whole. Things are so ridiculously different now than when the boards were originally started 10 years ago. And really, it started before that, but it was 10 years ago that I registered the original lfboards.com URL. From the original forum hosted by ezboard.com, to free hosting that was provided by ~!Super Mutt!~ from Ballarat, to finally paying for hosting in February 2004… it’s been an interesting experience. And by “interesting” I mean “the amount of forum posts we’ve lost due to server moves or other things blowing up is ridiculous.”

So I guess what it boils down to is as long as people in the community continue to find value in the site as a whole, it’ll continue to be here. When people feel it’s completely outlived its usefulness, it’ll ride off into the sunset and become a very small footnote in the history of the internet.

Questions/Comments/Emotional Outbursts?

For those of you who haven’t bought your tickets or made your travel plans yet – let’s get on that shall we? Part of what makes nationals “NATIONALS” is getting to see people who share your addiction for this game we all play. The more of us we get in to one place the more awesome it is.

Or the more trouble we get into.

Probably both.

So let us know in the tournament forum when you’re flying in and where you’re staying. The more the merrier.

Stay safe

Practice night is January 8th.

Cost is $60/person and that includes the practice night and the awards dinner.

International Rules will be used, as well as the full field. The full field thing is new as typically Detroit has only used the bottom floor and their ramps for SM5 in the past.

The big difference in this tournament from others in the past is the positions will be done via random draw before each game, so there could be some VERY interesting match-ups.

If you don’t have a full team of 6, feel free to post in the tournament forum to find a team. The more the merrier.

Space Marines 5 will be played.

International rules will be used.

Well, unless I knock another tooth out between now and when I leave Friday. My wife has told me in no uncertain terms that she will ban me from going if I shatter out another tooth playing lasers.

This should be one of the most interactive nationals ever, with plans to have the score monitor streaming (link when I have it) as well as game by game stat updates. Should be a good time.

Also, thanks to Shadow Dagger from the Chula Vista site for going through and creating this awesome google map with all current Laserforce sites on it. Very appreciated since I didn’t have to do it
